What is Long Term Care Planning?

Many elders fear that they may ultimately need significant care, either at home or in a facility, with a resulting loss of personal autonomy and savings. Often people pay privately for nursing home care until their savings run out. Long term care planning, whether in advance or in response to an unexpected need for care, can involve purchasing long term care insurance or making sure that you receive benefits to which you are entitled through Medicare, Medicaid, the Veterans Administration or other benefit programs. By planning in advance, people may be able to protect some of their assets for their spouse and family.

We can help you navigate the various programs that may be available to help cover the cost of your care.

Our primary goal in long term care planning is to promote independence and the best quality of life which is possible for our clients. We accomplish this by working with our clients and other professionals, such as geriatric care managers, to gain an understanding of their legal, financial, social, medical and family issues. We review a client’s wishes concerning the level of medical care desired in certain situations, including end of life care, to help ensure that those wishes will be carried out.
